Eric Dane is an American actor born on November 9, 1972, in San Francisco. He began building his career through television in the 1990s and early 2000s, landing guest and recurring roles before breaking out to mainstream audiences. One of his early, well-known TV parts was on Charmed, and his on-screen charisma helped him transition into bigger projects in both television and film.

The story of his career is most defined by his role as Dr. Mark Sloan (“McSteamy”) on Grey’s Anatomy, which turned him into a pop-culture favorite, and later by his darker, more complex performance as Cal Jacobs on Euphoria. He also led the action drama The Last Ship and appeared in films like X-Men: The Last Stand. In April 2025, he revealed he had ALS, and he died on February 19, 2026, at age 53. He’s remembered for the range he brought to TV—from magnetic charm to unsettling intensity—and for continuing to work while sharing his health journey publicly.
